Many know Necole as the successful former celebrity blogger of Necole Bitchie and media mogul of xoNecole- however, similar to most women, she spent years overworking, skipping meals, and forgetting to prioritize self-care while hustling her way to success in an unhealthy way. And her periods were debilitating!
She didn’t know at the time that our menstrual cycle is a fifth vital sign and can be considered a monthly report card for our overall health. Her period was showing her signs that she was not in good health. She was dehydrated, had gut imbalances, severe vitamin deficiencies and her hormones were out of whack. She set out to learn more about healthy habits and nutrition, it was alarming to find out that 80% of women were living with hormonal imbalances that were manifesting into heavy, painful periods. She learned that when unaddressed and undiagnosed, these imbalances increase their risk for more serious health complications such as fibroids, breast cancer, PCOS, endometriosis, thyroid disorders, and estrogen-induced cancers.
Furthermore, Black women in particular are 2 to 3 times more likely to be diagnosed with fibroids and also face more severe menstrual symptoms that have a direct impact on their mental health, body image, relationships, and job performance. She knew she had to do something with so many women who looked like her suffering in silence and living in shame.
