Our life experiences have a very subtle way of shaping who we are and who we become.
Every triumph, every failure, every relationship- both the ones that blossom and the ones that end, all influence the lenses through which we view ourselves and others.
I find that we often cling to a version of ourselves that no longer exists. The person you were at 20 is far different from the person you are at 35. What you once defined as success no longer applies. You’ve changed and grown in ways that you never imagined.
As we journey, it’s important to constantly rediscover and fall in love with our present selves. The clearer you are about who you are, the clearer you become in creating a life that feels good.
Radical self-care is the assertion that you have to take care of yourself first before attempting to take care of others. Doing so allows you the capacity to heal and move forward into your next chapter of life.
Take inventory of where your self-care is lacking by asking yourself the following :
How are you truly feeling?
What have you been avoiding?
How have you made yourself proud?
In what way(s) have you disappointed yourself?
What thoughts or feelings have you been suppressing?
How are your relationships?
How is your work life?
How have you been feeling physically? Is there an ache or pain that you’ve been dismissing?
How are you sleeping? Are you sleeping through the night? Are you having recurring dreams? Do you wake up feeling well-rested?
How have you been connecting with your community?
Use the questions above as separate journal prompts. As you answer, be honest with yourself. Even if you don’t ‘like’ the answer- go with it. Allow yourself to be without any judgment or expectation.
